Girlhood is a light
and I can’t look away.
The spots it leaves behind
are only compensation.
My brain’s bright fiction,
a witness to my own conversation.
Clutching daisies as I run
barefoot through the sun.
Alice may appear at any moment,
and fumble for the future,
certain womanhood will be mine;
knowing something waits
just beyond the line.
