Poems on this day – 20th November 1991

Nothing Short

If I was incredibly beautiful
I would be a lure for all my friends
If I was incredibly beautiful
I’d be sure I’d wet my ends
If I was incredibly beautiful
I wouldn’t have to say anything to anyone
If I was nothing short of beautiful
I’d be short of nothing at all

Lost Control

Something came over me
I had to get away
I just can’t explain
How I lost control again
So I must apologise
For bringing all this sorrow
‘Cos somehow I know
I’ll lose control again tomorrow

I Fart

Goddamn I can’t stop farting
Every time I bend over
And my cheeks pull apart
I fart

I’m Not Him

I’m not him
Please don’t dream I am
If the image scares you
Remember who I am
I won’t hurt you
In any shape or form
Remember who I am
I am Shaun

Poems on this day – 18th November 1991

Marie

What is it that has possessed me to chase you?
It took all my courage to come ’round and face you
Something so important made me approach with care
And now that I need you, you didn’t want to be there
Your choice may be wise and you’ll feel no pain
I guess I found it hard to explain
That my feelings ran much deeper than you’d thought
And it was happiness with you that I sought

Different Stance

It’s the same old story
I guess I’ll never learn
Time for  a different stance
Time for my turn
But will I recognize the looks
If I was given half a chance
Reckon I’ll spend my days just searching
for that different stance

Back to the Book

Back to you my faithful friend
Something I can turn to near the end
To reflect on all those things I’ve done
To remember them one by one
Some things were happy and others maybe not
But you should be content with what you’ve got
Back to the book to write this script
During another occasion when I tripped

Alec

What in God’s name is the matter with you?
Nothing’s gone right, even from the start
Try to drag yourself up from the dead pool
But you go to bed with murder in your heart

Savages – 4th April 1991

I’ve just started to flower
Let’s dance to celebrate
My people have come together
Across the lands they came

Our joy runs through the earth
And in return it feeds us
With all the wealth
That we could ever wish

We do not pay in money
We know we’ll pay in blood

Then the nations came
To colonise the world
The prize was clearly seen
But not so the price

Now I no longer flower
You danced across my grave

Your dividing line grows further all the time
You cannot own the land no matter your demand
You cannot own the land no matter your demand
One day you will pay – blood

The buffalo — our brother
He feeds and keeps us warm
You leave them to die
By the rights you’ve been taught
Savages — one and all
We’re savages — one and all

Don’t Worry – 9th October 1989

Worry won’t change anything
Things always seem to happen
But whatever the outcome
I will always love you

Things bad blow on over
And times get good again
Those hold in my memory longer
The bad gets flushed away

But when they rear their ugly head
Don’t worry
I still want to be with you
Always

12th Aug 2024 – Guessing the date around this time because I’m also guessing this is connected with my then-girlfriend Cherry whose mother was the worst worrier I ever met and perhaps she passed some of this onto her daughter. Perhaps she was right to worry in the end, as this early-twenties romantic spew exposes and I did not, indeed, want to be with her always.

Cherry’s mum worried so much that she got pulled over by police and cautioned for driving too slow. Twice!

Poems on this day – 11th July 1989

Reminder

It’s like I haven’t seen you
For the last million years
I wish I could’ve been you
And seen thru your veil of tears
In my dreams I was you
And saw the way I’d been
I think it’s real because you
Remind me of what I’d seen

Real Friend

I never had a real friend before
Friends usually treat me like shit on the floor
I’d try my best
To keep their interest
But they’d kick me out the door

Poems on this day – 15th June 1989

Somewhere to Play

Has your girlfriend got blonde hair?
And two pools that are deep blue eyes
Or is she someone when you see her
That you just recognize
Would you proudly tell your friends
That you’d love forever and a day
Or when you’re with your friends
Do you tell her to go away
She’ll soon find somewhere else to play
And maybe somewhere to stay

Cry Baby Kid Stick

Go and cry then, to your mother
You listened to their words
You caused a lot of bother
Punishment is incurred
And kid stick a knife in the womb
Which is his world
His only room

Poems on this day – 5th June 1989

Crummy Dream

Red and yellow tentacles to avoid
A verse in a hearse being destroyed
Stuffing that gauge right down my throat
My girl has turned into a goat
I gave you a secret you didn’t keep
Come on honey let’s go to sleep

Pointed Finger

The finger of accusation
From the fist of persuasion
A fingertip between my eyes
Knew I shoudn’t have told those lies
