You’re creating your problems
It’s no one’s fault but your own
I try to help you out
But all you do is moan
Sometimes I wonder why I bother
I really do
It’s no good to keep on coming up to me
To keep helping you
All your problems – solve them

Work – 26th May 1984
Kiss the workhouse
Kiss it goodbye
Out at last
Free from the lie
Job satisfaction
Wages
Social Industry
Boredom
Conditioning
How many people out there are listening?
Moan on the dole
Clone control
Work work work work work work work work – know what I mean?
7th June 2023 – From age 13 until finishing school we were asked what jobs we wanted to do when we left school. How was a dumb boy like me supposed to know? Well, that’s why we had career advice lessons and a beginner’s introduction to the soon-to-be popular ‘buzzwords’. I still quite like this poem.
What Have You Done? – 24th May 1984
You sit alone, thoughts in your head
What can you say that hasn’t been said?
What can you do that hasn’t been done?
You know you’re not the only one
What will you do now you’re having fun?
Will you look back at what you have done?
You gave up the world for your selfish aims
So you could carry on with your games
Now I’m asking you what have you done?
You don’t know or care as long as it’s fun
Won’t you help? You know you can save me
You know you could love me but hate is all you gave me
What will you do now you’re having fun?
Alienate me more that you’ve already done
So long as you’ve got friends and a bottle to drink
You can live life without having to think
To think
What have you done?
The end
Is sure to come
Transformation – 18th May 1984
Now you’ve come of age at last
It’s time now to forget your past
Keep your hair clean and fix your face
Now you are in your place
Nice, systematic, cool, controlled
I’m afraid I’m not that old
Nice….systematic….cool….controlled
Transformation
When you get old – time to change again
It’s a shame – there’s no remain – of your brain
Fair Enough – 15th May 1984
Some things I can stand
Some things I cannot
But you are just sitting there
Taking everything I’ve got
So I use my free speech
Make sure I have my say
But the media distorts my every word
So I can’t get away
I say it’s bad stuff
They say I say fair enough
Is it fair? Is it enough?
6th June 2023 – I feel like I was being an everyman with ‘the media distorts my every word.’ My own personal views were never represented in media but those I aligned with often were. I don’t think this was about a particular incident, or at least I can’t remember it now but a very vague generalisation.
Dying For A Fag – 13th May 1984
Have you got a cigarette for me to smoke?
If I don’t have one soon I think I’ll choke
The doctor says I should give up the weed
He says they will make my lungs bleed
– I try to breathe out but I always wheeze
– Have you got a fag? Oh, please!
I always take a bag to the shop
‘Five thousand fags please’, I never stop
All these little kids asking for a fag
But I tell them that I need every drag
– I try to breathe out but I always wheeze
– Have you got a fag? Oh, please!
It got so bad I was seriously ill
My throat was blocked, I couldn’t swallow a pill
Lying on a hospital bed, still wanting a drag
But now I’m really dying for a fag
Mastery – 11th May 1984
Mastery exam is a sham
Mastery test, mastery test
Mastery exam is a sham
Mastery test, mastery test
I want a job, I want a job
Failed the exam, failed the exam
Sham
It’s Worse Than You Think – 10th May 1984
Read the papers and hear the news
Someone’s point of distorted views
When someone says it’s worse than you think
You’d better believe it, you never saw the missing link
6th June 2023 – I so want to fix that last line, what a nightmare!
In 1984 we didn’t have mainstream media – there was just media and it was mostly news with doses of opinion. Not much entertainment but that would soon be coming. There was no mainstream media because there wasn’t much in the way of alternative media, at least not easily discoverable. Anyway, I was already distrustful.
Tally Ho – 8th May 1984
Whatever takes your pleasure
Whatever you do for fun
Don’t mess me up
Cos you’re not the only one
Tally ho
You’re Only Gonna Die – 5th May 1984
Enjoy and enjoy your life
It’s the only one you’ve got
Enjoy yourself but don’t shit on others
Save yourself, it’s worth a lot
So when someone hits you in the eye
Just get up and cry ‘I’m only gonna die!’
4th June 1984 – I’d already figured out life’s pointlessness but it hadn’t started crippling me yet. I hadn’t heard of Stoicism or memento mori yet either.
