Shh…
she
said
quiet
your
eyes
silver
streams
presently
dried
quivered
lips
soon
satisfied
hot
words
held
in check
pacified
let
your
wonder
wander
trussed
and tied
red
blood
rumbling
undenied
left
unsaid
calm
applied
your
head
bedside
off to sleep
She said
Shh…

Absolutely! It’s what it felt like for me as I read it. Sorry, sometimes I leave tiny comments about things I enjoy about the work, and they probably seem like general observations.🙃

I agree with Melissa, about words floating through my head. I love the shape and the circularity of your quiet poem, Shaun, beginning and ending with ‘shh’, with the ‘hot words’ and ‘red blood’ sandwiched between ‘silver streams’ and sleep.

Thanks Kim 🙏
It was a little inspired by Substack poet Nilofer Neubert who presented a couple of skinny poems which I thought to try out for myself.

You’re welcome, Shaun. I haven’t come across Neubert on Substack, so I’ll check those skinny poems out.

I feel those words falling into silence with me.

Shaun, the gentle rhythm makes me feel both calmed and curious, like hearing a secret just before sleep.
