Bog Standard – 5th September 2026

All the lines here have been taken from An Existential Guide to: Making Friends (with some minor editing). Shared with dVerse: descort

Today’s Daily Stoic poem:

Focus On What Is Yours Alone

Don’t turn optimism into false hope
The future is not yet yours
There are better ways to cope
Focus on what you have in your stores

  1. When I read the title, all I could think of was bog roll, Shaun, and then I read the poem! I once had a roll of toilet paper with similar things printed on it. The font threw me off at first, very Shakespearean, but the shape and layout told me otherwise. I chuckled at ‘Bars are museums of speech’. There is truth in ‘To be human is to be an animal that needs witnesses’.

    1. Cheers Lynn 🙏

I can’t take any credit for the actual words – just the organisation of them.

What was interesting was that I put the original article into an AI checker and it was deemed 100% human but when I put this resulting poem into the checker it was deemed 100% AI!

  2. don’t believe everything you read. The font is too small dear Shaun. But your words have a life of their own. That humans need witnesses. Oh yes. Don’t we know. Especially young ones on social media. Thanks Shaun.
