I am so happy and grateful that we can afford the healthy cat food for our cats – it’s very expensive but has helped our cats live longer, happier lives and hopefully that does for us too.
Fear of life – 6th March 2021

My fear of life is necessary to me, as is my illness. Without anxiety and illness, I am a ship without a rudder. My art is grounded in reflections over being different from others. My sufferings are part of my self and my art. They are indistinguishable from me, and their destruction would destroy my art. I want to keep those sufferings.

I am so happy and grateful for our wheelbarrow and shovel. They helped me move rocks around Amy’s cactus garden. Sometimes I can’t believe I own a wheelbarrow. All the other components of being grown up seem minor in comparison. A wheelbarrow!

I am so happy and grateful to live near the university – it gives us the opportunity to meet people and start a business (one day!) and there is a feeling of vibrancy here. When I walk through the street market amongst all the people I feel like I want to meet and know them all, know all their stories and help them with their futures.

I am so happy and grateful for our gardeners who come and make everything look a little cleaner around the house again. After their visit, everything looks beautiful again. They work very hard in the heat and I know I should be doing that work but I am old, lazy and get tired to do it.

I am so happy and grateful to Amy’s friend Baew who visited Amy yesterday and they took themselves out for entertainment. Baew is a good friend for Amy because they have similar ideas. Both are financially stable, much more than their other friends, so they can think about things on a certain level without getting criticism and envy from their other friends.

I am so happy and grateful that I could leave work after my morning class and come home cos I’m still not feeling well. I was able to rest a little and enjoyed just watching philosophical debates on YouTube which is better than listening to some of the noisy chit-chat and gossip at school. All philosophical I suppose.

I am so happy and grateful for the two strong hill tribe girls who came to clean our windows. They are only 20 years old and work for Amy’s mum’s friend as maids. They have no days off and work for 100 baht a day. We gave them an extra 100 baht and a meal. They both seemed happy and uncomplaining. I’m not sure how I feel about it.

I am so happy and grateful that we have two bathrooms. I was sick with food poisoning and I could poo diarrhoea in one bathroom and throw up in the other – until I couldn’t control it anymore and in the small bathroom I had to sit on the toilet and throw up in the sink at the same time.

I am so happy and grateful to have lots of clothes available so that when disaster happens, such as last night and my uncontrollable butt, I can easily find more things to wear.

I am so happy and grateful to have access to running water. I can feed our jacaranda trees that are blooming again and growing each year. I can play water games with Tangmo, our visiting friendly dog and I can drink away my thirst in the morning. In Thailand I don’t take water so much for granted as we have to maintain equipment just to have it.
