Walked calmly onto the scene
No one knew where he’d been
He said you shouldn’t do that
He was the man with a hat
Nothing could amuse him
He let people peruse him
He did everything he could
Just like a man with a hat should
Afternoons – 15th January 1986
Play tennis in the backyard
Jump about like your kids
Ride around your bicycle
Showing off with skids
Evening comes
Darkness falls
You put away
Your tennis balls
Bedtime beckoning
As the morning looms
Another day
In afternoons
The Latest Trend – 9th January 1986
Fashionable clothes for trendy whores
Big business money-making clothes stores
Hit the right button, out comes a magazine
To keep you up to date on the fashion scene
Is this the right colour? No, it’s the wrong shade
Business and profit’s the way of the world
Can it and will it ever be cured
While people’s suffering is still ignored?
“Have you got a shirt that’s made from tweed?
A new fur coat is what I really need
To go with the underpants I’ve already bought
I don’t like your long-johns, they’re much too short”
You live – and see – people’s – agony
But is this – the right shade – of – burgundy?
Is this the right colour? No, it’s the wrong shade
Business and profit’s the way of the world
Life ruled by fashion and not thinking
Or common sense, a wardrobe full of
Clothes that have only been worn once
Cos the following week they’re out of date
The only reason for existence, being seen
As the necessity to impress other people
And stay ahead in fashion
Emotion and sanity reduced to scant levels
Due to incessant worry of not being able
To better the superficial and cosmetic
Standards set by equally narrow-minded
Trendy fashionable individuals
I refuse to feel guilt, embarrassment
Or inferiority just because my clothes
Aren’t baggy enough or the wrong
Shade of burgundy
But that’s the way of the world

Be Guards For Always – 20th December 1985
I’ll defend you for what I’m worth
Even if they crush me into the earth
I’ll protect you with everything I’ve got
I’ll still be here if you’re not
When you go
I’ll let you know
You’ll have my regards for always
Redecoration II – 19th December 1985
Paint, splash, paint, splash
Still not finished
The Very Important Chimney – 8th December 1985
You’ve got windows
You’ve got doors
You’ve got walls
You’ve got floors
You’ve got a roof
And it’s weatherproof
But when it’s windy
Don’t forget the chimney
The chimney is very important
It lets out all the smoke
Without the very important chimney
You would all choke
Double-O-Egg – 2nd December 1985
My parents scream, but I never listen
Just get into those lysergic emanations
They get me up when I’m feeling down
Now the dog’s whining with the shock of sound
The turntables whizzing, it’s starting to fry
All the plants in the garden are starting to die
The law came round to inspect our home
We got barbed wire fences, we’re a danger zone
Turn on the vibes, I love that sound
I just I scream I leap around
You’re a rock ‘n’ roll junkie the doctor confessed
Certified insane, you should be under arrest
Hey man, can’t stop that buzzing in my head
The police tell me our neighbours are dead
My ears are bleeding as I stamp on the floor
My mum’s OD’d, she couldn’t take any more
The first track’s finished, the next has begun
Never knew music could be such fun
People outside run past, hands to their ears
Dad’s downstairs and he’s close to tears
Whirlwind – 18th November 1985
In a whirlwind of psychotic dreams
Comes the echo of sadistic screams
Dancing through the stars too far away to see
Floating ever onward in anxiety
You’ve buried your problems – deep inside your head
Keep your eyes closed – and scream in dread
Clasp your hands tight – you have sinned
You’ll be consumed – in a whirlwind
Travelling through the blue and into the red
Your skin is itching and beginning to shed
Let us pray, for you have sinned
Let us dance into the whirlwind
Into the vortex, your body falls
Dropping away towards your master’s calls
whistling around your body, dirty coils of dust
Now you are in doubt about your master’s trust
You’ve burning the problem – deep inside your head
You’ve cut the strings – but this is final thread
Hold yourself tight – you have sinned
But you can free yourself – from the whirlwind
The Westbury Walk – 17th November 1985
Ever gone somewhere
And ended up nowhere?
Ever got clear
Then ended up here
At the Westbury Walk?
Where there is a void
No way north, no way west
Where punishment is put to the test
Ever done something good
But no like you should?
Ever got near
Then ended up here
At the Westbury Walk?
Where there is a void
Can’t go east, can’t go south
You’re standing at the mouth
Of the Westbury Walk
