Thank you for writing and posting this. It seems that nothing is enough – not tears, not horror, certainly not ‘diplomacy’ (such as it is); and yet, turning away and staying silent is certainly no good, either. I find it incredibly hard to write about, though I manage it sometimes. I’m glad when others can. The extreme terms in which you’ve couched this are, sadly, no hyperbole.

For 75 years, Israel exercised Hasbara (explaining) carefully provided Jews in the diaspora with pretty pictures of bronzed kibbutzniks so they had stories to justify the existence and conduct of Israel. Terrible as the consequences have been, October 7th was calculated to bring the naked truth of Zionism into the open by the hubristic ultra right wing government. They in turn, gambled that they could get away with it as they have in so many smaller wars against the Palestinians, but I think people, Jews, governments, are recognising that they have been co-opted (not to mention fleeced) into supporting a war that has no justification, a theft, a genocide, a travesty, an inhumanity. Will the tide turn against Israel, one can only hope – oh, and write poems like this and consider them coffin nails in the nailing of Israel.

Outside of the western world Israel is hated! Absolutely hated. And slowly the tide is turning in the west too – the most propagandised people in history!
