How can you ever let me down?
We’re not made to be broken
Just like fools, we left so much unspoken
Now the future is a past that’s come back around
We were made to be broken
How could you ever let me down?
A biolet quadrille shared with dVerse – promises.
Highly inspired by The Buzzcocks – Promises

Shaun, I really dig how you’ve woven that bittersweet sense of inevitability into this piece—it hits like a powerful echo of past and future colliding.

Thanks David 🙏
The Buzzcocks song that inspired this poem follows a similar path but takes three or four verses to complete it’s journey. I had to try and cut it down to just the 44 words and hence didn’t repeat the first two lines word for word at the end.
I enjoyed the process for this one.

Excellent biolet AND quadrille! This line
“Now the future is a past that’s come back around”
is frightening to read in these times here in the US.

Yes, politicians in the US are full of promises. In some other countries politicians can only gain power through the merits of their past work. That seems to be a better system. Good luck!
