The Crush – 13th February 2026

is it true that it’s a weakness?

– a tender trap that crushes;

a sweet anguish to be mad about,

– a cherished affliction;

ah! blissful misery, hopeful despair

– crushed under its own weight.

A sijo for Tanka Tuesday #48 – love and passion and also shared with Poets and Storytellers United #214

Today’s Daily Stoic poem:

Pleasure Can Become Punishment

Guard against getting carried away
On the waves of too much pleasure
Take a breath, think and say
Will this bring me further pressure?

    1. I tell my students that they should have their hearts broken at least twice before finishing high school. That way they are well practised for more serious relationships that will happen in their futures.😃

      Thanks Willow 🙏

  1. I’ve always felt crushes were simply preludes to the real thing .. whether they materialized .. or not. I’ve had many wonderful crushes and several beautiful relationships as a result. Well done, Shaun!!!!

  2. Your first verse reminds me of a couple of my first boyfriends… too much expectation. And which was indeed crushed by its own wieght.

    Your second reminded me of a video I just watched eariler of an abandoned home… where the weight of both fire and water has left the interior in ruins…
