We filled our children full of hope—
What else were we supposed to do?
We taught them that to care is to cope
With the evils we’ll put them through.
Make it faith, or just a prayer—
Because what’s left when love’s not there?
Written for dVerse Quadrille #252 – care
Today’s Daily Stoic poem:

The eternal dilemma! I still think it’s best to fill them full of enough love that they will be strengthened to withstand the ‘slings and arrows’.

Coping with the evils, caring, having hope and critical thinking: those are the things we need our children to have. This is a thoughtful poem.

Thanks Kim 🙏. Critical thinking is what I try to teach my students, rather than the English that I’m supposed to be teaching!

Faith, hope and love, are to me still a most-valuable trifecta to teach the young indeed.

It’s sort of ironic that I don’t believe in hope myself but I understand it’s usefulness!
