is it true that it’s a weakness?
– a tender trap that crushes;
a sweet anguish to be mad about,
– a cherished affliction;
ah! blissful misery, hopeful despair
– crushed under its own weight.

Today’s Daily Stoic poem:

Wow! These two poems play well off each other. I enjoyed them both!

Oh, I hadn’t noticed that. I wrote them at different times.

Wow to this. To me it sounds as if Keats was still around. You’re amazing. Thanks.

Such wisdom especially in the second verse. You warn us, remind of that first painful crush…. Such sweet pleasure… Inevitably causes pain. 💜💜

I tell my students that they should have their hearts broken at least twice before finishing high school. That way they are well practised for more serious relationships that will happen in their futures.😃

Females tend to be more emotionally rational than the lesser sex, us stupid boys! 😜

As a follower of Stoicism, the second resonates well with me.

You express the danger well, reminding me of the quote: the higher you climb the further you fall. 🙂

Like the poem but, how far must a “crush” be allowed to grow.
P.S. I have great difficulty to comment. don’t fully understand the reason. [https://sumandebray.blogspot.com]

How far? We can only answer that ourselves.
I had to approve your first comment. New ones should appear immediately 👍

I’ve always felt crushes were simply preludes to the real thing .. whether they materialized .. or not. I’ve had many wonderful crushes and several beautiful relationships as a result. Well done, Shaun!!!!

For myself, I think my crushes only brought about frustration, as I was too immature to turn them into relationships at the time.

Your first verse reminds me of a couple of my first boyfriends… too much expectation. And which was indeed crushed by its own wieght.
Your second reminded me of a video I just watched eariler of an abandoned home… where the weight of both fire and water has left the interior in ruins…

Better to have loved and lost….Nah
The pain is not worth it. Self destructive.

It has to happen so that we can know. To keep doing it though, would be self destructive.
