Thrasher In The Toilet – 25th September 1985

Trash in the pit
Thrasher in the toilet
Trash in the pit
Thrasher in the toilet

One the floor
In the dirt
Feel the pain
Begin to hurt

On the floor
Beer and piss
Violence smells
Just like this

On the floor
Grunt and groan
Boots don’t hear
Agonised moans

Trash in the pit
Tread in the shit
Violence will spoil it
Thrash in the toilet

12th Mar 2025 – Us punks thrashing in the pit was violent but fun and friendly. No one got hurt that much, and there was definitely no malice involved. That seemed to be changing at the bigger venues around this time and inspired this write.

Ice skating – 21st September 1985

Went ice skating – it was shit.

29th Feb 2024 – Sometimes I made an effort to try and fit in. I really did. This would also have been prompted by the fact that lots of girls went ice skating too. The reason I wouldn’t have enjoyed this is that I was too cool for school and making a fool of myself was a no-no. It would take me a long, long while to lighten up.

12th Mar 2025 – It’s weird that I only have a memory of the feeling of this event. I have no idea where this happened. I can’t think of any ice rinks at all but I’m guessing it was in Poole or Bournemouth (maybe Ferndown?)

Paler Shade of Black, Atrox, Suicide Pact, All The Glory – West Indian Club, Southampton, Hampshire, UK – 19th September 1985

Diary entry: Last (Atrox) gig in Southampton. Went really well.

12th Feb 2021 – A Thursday night, no less. Not being too familiar with Southampton after having only been there a couple of times, we often got misdirected by the locals, whether by accident or folks not appreciating these scruffy young punks in their city.

We did establish many lifelong friendships from these times though. The West Indian Club was a magical place (in my mind now) though I had no real idea of the workings of organising shows or even understanding how sound was mixed in a live situation. I just stood on the stage and shouted as loud as I could and hoped I could be heard. Folks seemed to enjoy it, either way.

Under The Sun – 1st September 1985

Under the sun, I watch everyone
I see that fun that’s going on
I see the time-wasters hanging on
Waiting for something that just won’t come

Under the sun, I see the young
Waiting for the moon to come
Hoping the sun will just move on
So they can have their fun

Under the sun, in a cloudless sky
The earth is now parched and dry
I take a glance at the passers-by
But he’s got the sun in his eye

Under the sun, I watch the decay
Eating the earth away
Under the sun, I sweat away
Under the sun, another day
