The sky was Australian blue;
not the first time we kissed –
that time
we smashed our teeth together due
to excitement – our tryst
sublime.
Along the stream, we got undressed,
the passions came and went –
took heart.
That memory is still the best,
long after this time spent
apart.
Shared with dVerse Meeting The Bar – not quite meeting the theme of ‘anniversary’ though this is a memory that I recall at least once a year, reminiscing on the wild emotions of discovery of new love.
The form is memento (2 stanzas, 6 lines per stanza, 2 tercets (2*3 lines) per stanza, syllable count per tercet: 8,6,2; 8,6,2, rhyme scheme abc, abc)

I don’t see why that shouldn’t count as an anniversary. For you, it clearly is. I enjoyed your telling.

I enjoyed the points of change, not least the last line 🙂

I seem to have condensed an exciting three years down to twelve lines!

That is indeed an achievement, but maybe disquieting on another level?

I guess time does that eventually. But the wild emotional ride of that time is still resonating deeply and provides much inspiration even now 25 years later.

Some things are held deeply I guess, I know they are in me.

I found the form relatively easy but struggled to keep the storyline linear when insistent rhymes came to my mind!

Shaun, I love the title and what transpired in your poem. Makes me think of my own days “along the stream.”

That particular stream is a beautiful bush walk that follows the flow down into Middle Harbour in Sydney. I have been back once or twice to reminisce those wonderful times.
