Record of the week: Conflict (live)

1st October 1984
No word from Jeremy at all. Walked into town and got school bus back. Had a game of Spotlight. Dandy came down. Went home. Got drunk. Gave Vicki some earrings.

2nd October 1984
Finally wrote SHE’S SO BEAUTIFUL… Got in touch with Jez. He reckons there’s another gig on Friday. Rang Simon. Practice should be next Monday. Conflict Sunday. Busy weekend ahead – I hope.

3rd October 1984
Friday’s gig could be in Hamworthy. Rang Paul. Rang Justin. Rang Jez. Broke a string on Jez’s bass. Started drawing on wall again.

4th October 1984
Tomorrow’s gig is in Hamworthy. Justin may go. Can’t get Jez and he’s being very vague – in love with Fog maybe?

5th October 1984
Went to Poole. Gig wasn’t on. Went down youth club.

7th October 1984
Went to see Conflict. Fuckin’ good. Nice blokes to talk to as well.

Watched telly in evening. It’s getting winterier. A definite chill in the air.

Put in bike for service. Got it back at five. Bloke said I looked after it quite well. Really. It only cost £18 odd. Watched Silent Movie – good. Write a good song. IN TWO MINDS. Waited for the right time to write SHE’S SO BEAUTIFUL….

Had a go at Jasper for picking on Martin.

28th September 1984
Fuck all happened. Found out Conflict is next Sunday.

Met Zoe in Wimborne. Had a laugh with Parafin down the woods. Pissed around with Bennett’s air pistol. Went to Houldey’s. Dandy still gives me the horn. But SHE’S SO BEAUTIFUL I NEVER WANT TO SEE HER. Found my giro. £49.50

19th September 1984
Collect money. Went to Poole. Went with Bernice on the bus. Got some records. UKDK LP, In Excelsis, Disorder, Chaotic Dischord, Zounds and Cult Maniax. Had a laugh with Parafin again.

20th September 1984
Got up late. Granny had a go. Went and bought some things. Chased Burt for something to do.

21st September 1984
Went to Wimborne. Got pissed. But somehow got bored. So came back.

22nd September 1984
Went to Fog’s. Rupe was there. Jez came over. Fog came. Went to party. Had a good time. Went to the Void. Went back to party. Went back to other one with Jez. Went back to Fog’s. Came back. Mum was back.

23rd September 1984
Got up at 1. Went to Wimborne. Jez and Rupe came round. Played Megamania and Super Breakout at Bennet’s. Watched Threads. Quite disturbing. Mum got me horoscope book.

Went to Three Legged Cross. Dominic’s. Watched Bladerunner (crap) and Christine (good) at James’.

Went to sign on, on school bus.

Doing dares around Gaunts. Did hundreds of things.

Got amp back.

15th September 1984
Trying to organise practice for tomorrow. Found out I get £16.50. Princess Diana 2nd son born. WOW-E-WOO. Had a crease up around Gaunts.

Mark, Jez and Fog came over. Got stopped. So went to Scramble meeting down the road. Came back and got stopped again. Went round Scramble track. Shirley’s here – old slag. Perry broke a telephone box window so we scarpered.

3rd September 1984
Signed on. Saw Vicky, Sarah, Goober and Marshall.

6th Oct 2023 – Vicky? Sarah? Marshall? Rupert reminded me about Goober recently with a picture which definitely rang a bell but no real memories of him.

5th September 1984
Signed on again

6th Oct 2023 – My memory is of having to sign on every two weeks. Perhaps this week was my first time to do it. I got £26 a week, which I used to finish up in one or two days.

8th September 1984
Came off bike on the road. All day fire at the wood.

6th Oct 2023 – I was turning right at the junction pictured, before there was a divider at the give way. The road was wet and slippery and as I leaned my bike into the traffic-free turn the back wheel slipped out from under me and I slid along the tarmac for about 5 metres. There wasn’t too much damage done to either myself or the motorbike, scrapped knee and hand. I was more shaken up about it than in any pain. I was always more careful on wet roads and turning after that. Even now, when there is gravel on the road, as is often the case here, I tense up a little and try not to lean in too much.

30th July 1984
Went to Wimborne. Me and Jim pissed around for a while. All had a pizza. Bern’s sister got caught smoking by her mother.

31st July 1984
Pissed off. Had a pizza in town. Got bored around town. Went to James’s, watched the Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle.

1st August 1984
Even more pissed off. Had a laugh in Gaunt’s tonight.

5th Oct 2023 – Whatever it was that was pissing me off put an end to writing my diary for a few weeks. It’s hilarious that the entry above pivots from ‘pissed off’ to ‘had a laugh’. The life of a teenager.

23rd July 1984
Got up. Found out there was another accident last night at Horseshoes. Went to Wimborne. Met a few people. Went to Careers. Told me about a YTS at Holmans. Came back. Went down track. Crabby, Scott and Burt camped in Crabby’s garden. Went to Houldey’s. Dandy wasn’t there. Came back. Read book til 1 o’clock and then went to sleep.

24th July 1984
Got up. Mum took me to Wimborne. Went to Holmans. Asked about their scheme. Could be a chance of working there. Saw Bernice’s sister. Jim doesn’t want to go out with Bernice anymore. Came back. Had tea. Went down track. Went to Bernice’s. Was teaching her how to ride a moped around the car park. Walked around town. Came back. Met Shirl, Paddy etc

25th July 1984
Got up at 11. Watched telly. Played records. Went for a pizza with Fog and Bernice.

26th July 1984
Went for a pizza. Jim’s going out with Bernice again.

27th July 1984
Got pissed tonight at the Horns. Went to Wimborne. Pissed about down there. Can’t remember anything else. Went for pizza with Fog, Bern.

28th July 1984
Didn’t go to Bournemouth to the squat. Got some booze instead. Came home. Got drunk. Went back to Wimborne. Went to Horns. Had a pint. Got some booze. Jim came over and we got drunk.

29th July 1984
Woke up. Went to Wimborne. Got some more money. Me and Jim got pissed again tonight.

Got up. Had to go to town cos Mum wants me to get some shoes. Saw (?). Shopped around. Came back. Mum said I got wrong shoes. Jez came over. Did PCH stuff. He went on. Went to Greg’s. My bike got stolen but he’s gonna pay for it anyway. Got £10. Came back. Finished PCH for tomorrow.

17th July 1984
Jez woke me up. He’s skiving work. He’s got the day off but hasn’t told Dragon. Mum took me to town. Jez came in on his bike. Went to school. Came back. Got clothes and all sorts. Went to Job Centre. Got PCH done. Came back. Went to Jez’s, had a game of snooker at club. Went to Holloway’s. Came back. Don’t know.

18th July 1984
Went for a job at 10. Came back. Bloke rung at 12 said I hadn’t got it. Can’t remember a bloody thing. I think I talked to Dandy for a while. We’re getting on all right. Hope something comes of it. Apart from that, god knows what happened.

19th July 1984
Can’t remember any of today. I think I went to town for some reason. Went to see Void last night who were quite good. No one danced much though. Got some (?) today. Went home. Having a piss-up tomorrow. Down at the wood.

20th July 1984
Jez came over. We went up to school. Got chucked out by Doc Farthing. What a wanker. Went down town. Got PCH done. Put one in Square Records. Went to Poole. Got some photos. Came back and put another on a fence. Came back. Went to Wimborne twice to get all booze. Had a fuckin’ rave-up. Came back at 2.30.

21st July 1984
Got up at 9.30. Went out without breakfast. Had a fucking laugh with everyone. We fed Martin all sorts of shit for a fag. Came back at 4. Had breakfast and tea. Went out again. We went to Houldey’s. Had a laugh. Beki was in a good mood for a change. Went to Greg’s. Came back.

22nd July 1984
Got up 10.30. Ben may not be coming tonight. Looks like Jez may not be as well. Pissed around all day. Not doing anything. Rung Jim. Went to his place. Picked up Wayne, Dodds and Vince. Went down and got some booze. Jim and Roo turned up. Got in. A version of The Mad Are Sane played. Atrox were good. Self Abuse were good. Subhumans were magic. Came back. 5 people died in a car accident yesterday near Horton.
