Today I’m feeling:

Much better than yesterday. Despite sleeping less than 7 hours I woke a little more motivated, did some exercise and told myself that I will do some lesson preparation to keep myself occupied in the morning.

I also wrote a message to Amy explaining how I was feeling over the weekend and we both are missing each other.

Took a full tablet of sertraline this morning. I know it can’t take effect immediately but the placebo effect can.

Today I’m grateful for:

The patient waitress at Lardna Aroi who understood what I wanted with my bad Thai and some translation help. I tipped her two baht to round up the bill to 100 baht. Last of the big spenders.

The best thing about today was:

An unexpected message from my student Earn in the class LINE saying that she missed me. I replied that I missed everyone too. It’s funny because usually if I try and talk to Earn at school she tells me to go away (in a non-serious way). Leaving this job one day will be super hard!

What was out of your control today and how did you handle it?

I’m still struggling with some small issues with my computer but I have some optimism that they will get sorted out with a bit more investigation and time. Nothing particularly stressful.

Something I learned today?

I saw a video this evening that indicated that Australia wouldn’t follow the US into war with China. This is a surprise, particularly after investing in submarines that would likely support a war effort. Something is going on behind the smoke and mirrors.

What makes me unique?

I want to be facetious in my answer. I am not unique at all. Yet, everyone is.

But in the spirit of the question….I don’t know. Perhaps it’s not for me to say but for others. It’s usually easy to say something like this about someone else rather than yourself. Why?

This is ridiculous, the more I think about it the less unique I become.

Someone working at Daytripper took this picture and then used it in one of their Facebook posts to promote that they were open. Free model, listening to Kishore Mahbubani talking about US-China relations, deep in thought. But this picture just makes me want to work off more of that back fat so that my shirts fit better.

Today I’m feeling:

A little frustrated at first but ok now. Happy.

Today I’m grateful for:

Dr Arnon for giving me medicine and cleaning spray for Tigger’s skin problem without me having to take him in. Putting the spray on today though I can see one of the wounds on his head is big and deep, with the scab coming away. I just hope the antibiotics stop him from getting infected and it can heal quickly, otherwise, it will be another trip back for Tig.

The best thing about today was:

The very cold reception I got from my class of truants from yesterday and then as they slowly understood the work they needed to do and then have to read for me and as they did it, sometimes laughing at their mistakes and finally showing some pride at their ability to do it. They are smart kids just choosing not to be.

What was out of your control today and how did you handle it?

This morning the students were kept late at assembly and straggled into class with many things on their minds except studying. This class (1/6) has broken up into little groups that distract themselves constantly so that today no one was listening. Frustrated, I just let them leave, considering other ways or things I can teach them. Speaking with their head student though she said it’s like that in every other class too. I have a plan for tomorrow but after that… I don’t know. I do hope we get better levels of students next year or I will have to continue dumbing things down even further.

And, on top of that, the reason they were kept late was that they were being told about next week which, I just found out, is scout week! Another whole week of no classes! Any possible momentum to get going after sports week, lost again!

Something I learned today?

Luckily the thing I was trying to remember yesterday was brought back to mind today as it was whilst I was listening to the End On End podcast talking about the Autoclave record and the track Hotspur. One of the hosts mentioned that Hotspur was the name of a character in a Shakespeare play (I forget which) and just word Hotspur reminds me of one of Rik Mayall’s outrageous characters in the Black Adder. I hope to find some books of Shakespeares’ plays with cliff notes to help me understand it all. I have one on the shelf already but it’s not really at the top of the pile yet.

What is something I want to do for myself in the coming year?
Lose fat.

The kids are back in school today
Happy to see their friends and play
Looking at their personal screens
Is this what playing together means?

Is co-op play really that social
Why not run around a park that’s local?
But if this is how the future’s set
It’s the best education a kid can get

Well, this made for a pleasant afternoon, sometimes listening in the background as I swung in the hammock reading through more Infinite Jest, other times blasting out loudly to shaking fists and sing-a-longs “Our society – what a drag!”

Gratitude Journal

I am so happy and grateful for this delicious cookie in my mouth that is making my mouth water. Full of butter and macadamias and some fruit I don’t know. I can’t stop eating them and afraid I’m going to fatten up again. Amy is a great chef and I appreciate that very much.

T: i forgot the library book that’s due in today. it’s a three-day loan, so the fine is $5 a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i’m not coming in tomorrow. i was thinking of going home and coming back to return it, then maybe seeing you tonight. are you going to physio and massage???

S: Just physio – you can meet me there or I’ll meet you at home. Would love to see you OK? Watch the rest of the Maxx (and leave at least an hour before taking you home!!)

T: anyway, got the outline done but i think it’s all wrong. had to come in just to hand it in, but waiting around to see di, sue and tu, cause i think they’re in today.

S: I hope you catch up with them – I love the way you love your friends

T: think di had a great time at mso ball (everyone knew everyone – you know how it is).

S: Young Asian girls make friends everywhere?

T: hopefully, josh, mel and I can meet for SDD

S: Get any nasty emails?

T: cause i want to leave some free days to go out with laura, mich, and jo, and you of course.
