What Kind Of Monster Are You? – 1st April 2024

What kind of life is this?
Charged with electric dreams
Memories of distant joys
Fall apart at the seams

The horror is midnight real
Roaming these dark lanes
Only ever searching for love
For these stitched-together remains

Today I’m feeling:

Pretty good again.  Trying not to think too much about the events on this day last year.  We go on until we don’t.

Today I’m grateful for:

Being able to easily find the Chinese TV version of The Three Body Problem.  I’ll watch that over the holidays.

The best thing about today was:

Being able to sneak a coffee from 22 Grams this afternoon as we took Cap to get checked at the vet.  Still the best coffee in Chiang Rai for me.

Cap’s blood levels are a little high for his kidneys now so we have to get him tested again in a couple of weeks.

Something I learned today?

I think it is at the UN that the USA is always found in breach of rules and they always launch an appeal.

But appeals are never heard so that the USA doesn’t have to follow the rules until the appeal is over.

Why are the appeals never heard?  Because since the last two appeals judges retired the USA has blocked the positions of any new ones.

Hmm – and they call themselves part of the rules-based order.

Review your acts, and then for vile deeds chide yourself, for good be glad. — Discourses 3.10

I ordered a 32” globe for Amy as an anniversary gift.  I hope it isn’t too plastic and cheap-looking when it arrives.

I took this picture because yesterday the gardeners came and tried to trip our hedge so that we push the fence back up. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple and we’ll ask the builder who is coming to fix the drain in the garage soon.

Notorious – 10th April 2022

Are you shining brightly, attracting the moths?
Claim the credit when the winning goal scored
We are all cut from very different cloths
But it’s better to be attacked than ignored
Don’t settle for being a flash in the pan
Soon eclipsed by a new piece of gold
Make yourself as special as you can
And ensure it’s your name that’s being told

In trying to do nothing, or in trying not to force things, there’s still, somehow, always progression.

Gratitude Journal

I am so happy and grateful that Amy could enjoy our anniversary where she was yesterday and to receive a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue from here. Have to get my head together to taste that!

Well boy, you’ve got to listen to me, promise her you’ll rise this day next year, from this very bed – 9th April 2021

Everyone was asking me why I wasn’t drawing pictures of Amy, so I thought I’d prepare a little surprise for our 11th wedding anniversary. I started with one of us together and then ones with Amy and one of her friends. I then sent these digitally to her friends and asked them all to send them back to Amy digitally today. It was fun to plan all this and it got me a lot of practice with sketching.

Gratitude Journal

I am so happy and grateful for the TV in our hotel room last night. The porter switched it on when bringing in our bags and I thought it was weird to turn on the TV. As I was waiting for Amy I switched channels by total coincidence they had the ABC Channel and the Swans game was being shown live. I managed to watch the first half before we had to go out for dinner.

We got that attitude! – 6th April 2020

I am so happy and grateful for my Gloomy Bear mug which I’ve had for many years now. It reminds me of my past and my happy history.

To-do list

  • Must finish that lesson in the morning. ✅
  • Don’t watch TV until the afternoon.
  • Sort more CDs. ½

(It’s Friday now!) Finally, I have a little return of motivation.

Yesterday was our 10th wedding anniversary and we had a nice time at home, having spent time preparing a nice environment, as if we were out somewhere more fancy than our dining room. Amy did most of it with me working under direction. She has a good eye for design and detail. 10 years – mostly happy and content. Any rough rides smoothed over by our caring natures.

I finally finished another lesson plan, sorted some CDs and did one or two other things in my room. Tomorrow I’m thinking of playing some video games but wondering how much of a time suck that will be. If it’s a time suck that brings happiness then it’s not a big deal.

In the morning I also want to talk with George and see what his thoughts are on teaching online. I’m not sure how it will work when we have to encourage speaking. I’ve been writing my plans for students to work in pairs. How can that work? I’m curious about the possibilities though. It could be good in the way of learning new methods and developing ideas around the technology.
