You keep on coming back for more
Every year, the change is the same
I shouldn’t be keeping the score
There are no winners, it’s no game
Every time you keep coming back
Has started meaning less and less
And as my skin begins to slack
I’ve stopped caring, I must confess
I’m still wishing for more returns
Even if they’re filled with dread
To just keep on is what one learns
Cos it’s better than being dead

Oops, Shaun. Should have had a cuppajoe before reading and commenting.

Happy birthday, Shaun. Coincidentally, my brother-in-law, whose name is also Shaun, has his birthday on Sunday.

I’m later this month, just snuck in with the Scorpios.

My youngest grandson will be three at Halloween! They are coming up to us for a few days to have some Halloween fun at Bewilderwood.

Happy Birthday, Shaun, even as your tongue-in-cheek commemoration of it made me laugh, and yes, sympathize!! That direct address — “You keep on coming back for more” — is brilliant in setting the tone straight off with half-humor and half-exasperation. Love it!

I am sensing sadness behind this poem but also, this time of month of October really has something going for it, in terms of mood change.

No real sadness as such. Perhaps a wish that the years were counting down rather than up. I haven’t really celebrated my birthday since I was about 16 years old – it’s not that important to me – just a counter, a marker.

Did your birthday just pass? If so, Happy belated birthday, my friend.

Not yet – it’s on its way, for a few more times, hopefully. Thanks tho 🙏

Happy Birthday, Shaun! You’re allowed to enjoy it, even if the world is a shambles! 😂

Haha thanks Sunra 🙏 My world is pretty damn good. I’m glad I’m no longer in ‘the west’ and perhaps in a place that could conceivably see it’s way to improvement rather than on it’s way down, though that could happen too!

Oh dear! Well, I’m still in “the West” and always hoping things change for the better eventually! I can see why you’d find Thailand more preferable!

I imagine that in Thailand, Autumn is not very pronounced but your birthday rolls around anyway – keep on keeping on Shaun…

Autumn doesn’t exist at all here!
There’s not much else to do except to keep on…
Thanks Andrew 🙏
