The witch doctor whirls his words
Making you believe
A handful of herbs and happiness
You’ll receive
You must be really sick for this
Make believe
Open minds and open palms
Are easy to deceive
A pocketful of green is surely
Making you believe
Watch the video for a real whirl.
Inspired by both the words and video, and shared with dVerse Quadrille #235 – whirl

It’s all about Green Disease these days isn’t it. Take the $$ out of politics and let a lottery decide who fills the branches. I’m sick of what we have now.

If you’re not sick – you soon will be!
I’ve not heard the term Green Disease before and a search turns up historical meanings – is that what you are referring to Lisa?
Ah, wait – I understand the reference now! Yes, it seems some people just can’t enough of that folding green.

I first heard of Green Disease on Pearl Jam’s Riot Act album. Lyrics to the song, written by Eddie Vedder:
G-R-E-E-D
G-R-E-E-D
G-R-E-E-D
It’s a disease and they’re all green
It emanates from their being
A satiation with occupation
And like weeds with big leaves
Stealing light from what’s beneath
Where they have more
Still they take more
I know then I don’t
There’s a stowaway with my throat
It’s deceiving
I don’t believe him
We can scream out our doors
Behind the wall a fat man snores
In his dreams he’s
Choking tea leaves
Well I guess
There’s nothing wrong with what you say
But don’t sell me
“There can’t be better ways”
Tell the captain
“The boat’s not safe and we’re drowning”
Turns out
He’s the one making waves, waves, waves
But I said
There’s nothing wrong with what you say
Believe me
Just asking you to sway
No white
Or black, just grey
Can you feel this
World with your heart and not your brain
G-R-E-E-D
G-R-E-E-D

My father-in-law has stage 4 cancer, though few symptoms. He and the family are busy visiting temples around Thailand in the vain hope of a reversal. If it makes him ‘feel’ better just going through the process then fine.

Algorithms are not helping either. Once you start looking at bunyon fixes you become inundated with ads for every ailment that you think you might actually have.

It’s quite risky to google anything these days. The ads even show up in the games I play 🤪

Thank you. 🙏 It was kind of impossible for me to get the rhythm of the song out of my head. If you choose to listen you’ll find that it matches.

Witch doctors were the original hucksters, and they still abound. What a treat to read this quadrille, Shaun! Well done.

Shaun, that refrain “making you believe” really gets under my skin — I feel like I’m caught in the spell right along with it.
