you always knew I held the knife to you
only a matter of time
before I bled our hearts
~ but I’m editing my biography in real time ~
when the gardenia’s perfume reached my nose
a vague memory stirred within
and I let out a sigh
A kimo puente for Tanka Tuesday – new beginnings

Well that was a very interesting first verse! It stopped me in my tracks. … I also love the quote from André Leon Talley. Tell me did the smell of the gardenias make you drop the knife ? 💜💜

I had to rewrite this a few times as the idea for it came together on one day but when it came to writing it the next, the specifics of it had been lost in the intervening time! And I had this ‘quote’… Did André Leon Talley say this?
I found the obvious quotes about new beginnings a little trite and asked Deepseek to give me some more obscure ideas for quotes on the subject, none of which I liked but one which led me to writing this one myself, though also sounds like someone would’ve actually said it too!
The knife had been dropped long before and the once powerful reminder of gardenias has become more a fuzzy memory of something that felt like it happened to someone else.
There’s more but also no need to fill in the blanks 👍
Thanks for reading and commenting Willow 🙏

I did enjoy reading this …. You made a great job of it.
Yes indeed André Leon Talley did indeed say this… I am impressed that you came up with it too. It’s amazing that you came to the same conclusion 😁😉😁
