Both Amy and I got nicely relaxed yesterday on our cannabis brownies – I had to eat six of them to get a good effect though and felt so chocolate-sick by late evening. It was a very nice effect though and I actually sat and just listened to music which I haven’t really done for a long while. So, I was a little bit too relaxed last night to write anything!

I feel OK to go to work again tomorrow and really want to crack on with the lesson writing so I can get a good head start for when all the classes start again properly in July

I am so happy and grateful for these masks that can help me breathe. Coronavirus and high AQI.

14th Mar 2023 – That looks like a pretty fine podcast. Sometimes I go and listen to them myself. I think they’re pretty good. The mix of music represents my madness.
After having Covid last year I decided to stop wearing masks but with the summer burning season here again I’m wearing them intermittently when I’m outside.

To-do list

  • Record and upload TCRAH ✅
  • Install Powerpoint on laptop ½
  • Sort more CDs ½
  • Try to move more

Started off the day well then fell back into reading and watching TV. I do, however, feel much better today and much happier too. With holidays coming up, ie. not really having to work, I feel like I have lots of free time at the moment so I’m enjoying watching TV, though I do notice that time goes too fast.

Same with reading. I’m reading a lot more these days and before I know it, a couple of hours have gone.

Tomorrow is the end of quarantine and I’ll go buy coffee in the morning and we’ll stock up on supplies again.

The Chiang Rai Alternative Hour #27 – 1st March 2020

It’s Tuesday as I write. Getting back was equally emotional and equally flat. I felt numb. Amy is angry at the inconvenience that my trip has now caused us. She’s not so much upset with me as upset with the situation.

I drank a couple of whiskies and fell into a deep 12-hour-long sleep. I got up for lunch and fell back asleep again for the afternoon, got up for dinner and then went back to sleep around 9 pm.

Now it’s Tuesday morning and everything still feels flat. The situation with the virus is looking increasingly likely to postpone the WDS tour which meaning losing all the money on our flights in South East Asia. That’s the situation now and what we have to deal with.

Amy and I are stuck at home for another 12 days. I don’t anticipate any illness from the virus so we just have to wait and carry on as best we can.

I am so happy and grateful for our beautiful house. I love living here with Amy. When asked if we have any more dreams for our life we don’t have any especially. Things we would like to do but not necessarily dreams to achieve. George said we are living our dream and that’s a nice way to look at it.

I am so happy and grateful to be working in schools and with a not so serious expectation of my teaching skills. Of course, I always try to improve but the fact it is a little more relaxed has meant that I can enjoy interacting with the kids more. I don’t see many of they other teachers getting involved in the same way so much especially not the Thai teachers. All the kids want to talk to me all the time. I feel like I am a great asset to the school. I hope the school feels the same.*

*Green Day, Jailcell Recipes, Older Than Dirt – Joiners, Southampton, Hampshire, UK – 17th December 1991

Video evidence

Was that me handing the paper to Billie Joe to announce Rich “The Scene” Levine’s birthday at 38 and half minutes in?

Rich’s memory, taken from the STE Collective Facebook page:

S.T.E. 31! – GREEN DAY/JAILCELL RECIPES/OLDER THAN DIRT – Tues 17 December 1991 – Southampton Joiners.
Probably the most talked about S.T.E. gig! Whilst there was a bit of excitement about GREEN DAY coming over, I don’t think anyone would have predicted how big they were going to become. OLDER THAN DIRT opened with a typically rocking set. JAILCELL RECIPES from Merseyside played their 3rd Southampton gig (following 2 for Urbcore). The tour was booked D.I.Y. style by the Christy, Aidan & Mary Jane camp & my diary tells me 75 people came to the gig. Now as I (Rich) know/knew 90% of the people who were that night, over the years I have had people swear they were there that I know damned well weren’t! GREEN DAY had received the advance copies of their 2nd ‘Kerplunk’ LP that day & after Shaun had let on it was just after my 25th birthday I ended up being presented with the last copy they had & I still have it. People have often asked me if I got the record signed, to which I say that I didn’t even think about that – they were just another D.I.Y. touring band & would have laughed if I’d asked them to sign it. Afterwards, GREEN DAY stayed at Mike’s gaff & Billie Joe left a mess in the bathroom after dyeing his hair. Steve & Burgess Maria Christina ended up putting up JAILCELL RECIPES at their Eastleigh flat simply because there were fewer people with them than GREEN DAY – something Chrissy has often rued when telling fans of the band about it years later. Back at the flat, we watched the video of all the bands that Sean from Wigan filmed earlier & it is this footage that appears on YouTube. The flyer backdrop I used was from the insert to the debut GREEN DAY LP ’39/Smooth’. Years later ‘Kerrang!’ re-produced the flyer in a feature on the band & mocked the “princely entrance fee”
