Her words are like kisses Each sentence inspires She’s an amusing muse Setting touch-paper fires Lighting the way to art Where the image is created We set ourselves apart Related, yet unrelated Yes, she is an amusing muse It wasn’t up to me to choose
Pretty good and positive. I got to school early so that I could chat with students a little. That makes me happy. ****** wasn’t there today, Jan said she threw up this morning but I messaged her a bit later and she seemed ok though she still hasn’t even met her mum in their house since things happened a couple of nights ago.
Today I’m grateful for:
The new iOS Journal app looks pretty interesting as it gives prompts based on things you do on your phone. It’s not near a replacement for Day One yet though but it’s possible it could become so in the future.
The best thing about today was:
Watching a Love and Rockets documentary on YouTube and being reminded about what a truly awesome and inspiring comic it is. It reminds me that I would still like to get a Maggie and Hopey tattoo one day.
What was out of your control today and how did you handle it?
I started looking into my lessons for the next week or two and realised I needed to make some changes but there was some problem with the files that had me fixing them for the best part of three hours. Not exactly what I had planned for the afternoon (though I hadn’t really planned anything to be honest).
What random memory comes to mind right now?
Trying to force a memory into my head just to answer this question is hardly random!
Hira Hira have popped into my head a few times recently for some reason. Seeing them play at different venues at different stages of their couple of years existence. They are a reminder of fun times of involvement in Sydney’s music scene.
I took this picture because this interesting menagerie of items caught my eye at the hotel we stayed at. The Guy Fawkes mask has become a common emblem though I’m not sure that it’s use here is indication of anything in particular. No new pictures for three days now!

Zita Grimm at Black Wire
As mentioned last month, I’m a little slow at editing the pictures I take but I had to get a recent batch out whilst they were hot as I had such a great time at this particular show which was to say Bon Voyage to Mitzi (Zita Grimm, Thylacine, Bare Arms) as she heads over to Europe to get some culture. Check them out and post some comments to let me know what you think.
Maybe you didn’t know that tenzenmen also stocks Stumptown Arigato packs for CD, tape and 7″!

Life is hard for Hira Hira and they certainly let you know about it on their debut record Now Here Nowhere. Written over the past twelve months, the album touches on themes of cats stuck in trees and probably other things as well.
During the summer they spent 10 days out in the middle of the cheese capital of Australia to swim in waterholes, get sucked on by leeches and record the album. What they came away with was a raw and loud affair. An honest reflection of what the band is.
It should be mentioned that you can listen to the tracks, maybe show them to other people on your website/radio/home stereo and that maybe, if you’re around come to a show and buy heaps of merchandise.

TIM OLIVE (USA/jap)- Osaka resident, born and raised on the Canadian prairies, began playing electric bass at age 12, fueled by 70’s hard rock. A move to “the city” brought exposure to free jazz, early electronic music and the music(s) of Asia. Efforts were made to accomodate these sounds within the range of rock instrumentation in the bands Nimrod and Soap-Jo Henshi, but eventually periodic rhythms and tempered pitches were jettisoned in favour of open forms, improvisation and exploration of the full sonic possibilities of steel strings and magnetic pickups, the number and diameter of strings varying periodically. Extensive touring in North America, Europe and Japan has provided opportunities to play with a wide range of musicians, as well as long-term playing recording relationships with Jeffrey Allport, Shinichi Isohata, Fritz Welch, Francisco Meirino (aka Phroq), Nishikawa Bunsho (in the duo Supernatural Hot Rug And Not Used), as well as a duo with dancer Corrie Befort. http://www.virb.com/shranu http://www.myspace.com/timolive
3 OF MILLIONS- Brave turns, textural layering and a strong sense of united phrasing direct the music from intimate storytelling to epic intensity. This is music for the laughers, and the cryers. The rawest of emotions are sure to be unleashed. Keep your ears peeled and eyes open. In 3ofmillions, the piano trio format is morphed in to a new ultra-sonic beast. Rising from the embers of eclectic musical experiences including Triosk, Trio Apoplectic, the Splinter Orchestra, Pivot, Pure Evil Trio, and Holly Throsby Band. These influences are all called upon to improvise music that can, and does, go anywhere. “a brave new world of sound.” **** John Shand, SMH
KUSUM NORMOYLE – Kusum is an improvising vocalist/electronic artist/alternative pop musician based in sydney. She works with voice and electronics for performance and installation. a friend of mine – Their mix of catatonic introspection and impassioned instrument thrashing makes their live performances a unique spectacle that “you couldn’t turn a deaf ear to… double unison vocals which droned into a sea of power chords, and a drummer that rocked hard enough to put holes in your ear drums.” (fasterlouder.com.au) ” A Friend Of Mine played the sort of music you might bulldoze a neighbourhood to: rolling waves of brooding guitar grounded by frenetic, precise drumwork… their variation in intensity and unpretentious character made them a band worth catching.” (Inpress) They have since gone on to support a number of bands as diverse as Magic Dirt and Baseball, as well as improvising alongside Damo Suzuki.
tim dywer – I asked him for a bio but he never got back to me , so I am writing one for him. Tim reckons he sounds like suicide and he sort of does, I saw him playing with a jumper on his head and hammering a saxophone with a lot of smoke from a smoke machine. Was pretty good show. I think he is also doing some kind of master degree in art or some shit like that down in canberra. Anyway I guarantee it will be worth seeing
